I know that this question is probably a "No-Brainer" for most people on this mailing list but I am new to this so I'll ask anyway. 1) What frequencies can I recieve rtty transmissions? 2) I have several modems supporting speeds from 110 to 14,400 baud; Can I use a regular modem to recieve these transmissions? How can this be done? 3) Can I recieve rtty transmission on a shortwave receiver (non-ssb) and couple the sound output to the phone input of the modem (after placing in lease line mode)? I am sending this message through compuserve. As CI$ charges me for incomin g internet mail; please don't send me any large files as I am charged about $.20 per 10k! And please don't be offended if I do not reply to your message as I am charged to find your address and charged to respond. Thanks for any help. Rick (and the list), My wife's system runs Workgroups for Windows, and my system runs Debian Linux 0.93 (not yet released). I downloaded the 32-bit TCP/IP stack from ftp.microsoft.com, and installed it on her system. Then I built the "Samba" package, which is a Lan Manager file server for Unix, and I run that on my Linux system to serve its disks to the WFW system. To get that, read comp.protocols.smb or wait for the Debian release which will contain my build of Samba. I downloaded Eudora from qualcom.com, and that works wonderfully as an POP3/SMTP client on the Windows system. I have my wife's mail delivered to the Linux system, and then the Windows system uses Post Office Protocol to retrieve it and SMTP to send more mail. I'm hoping to have a ham radio package for Debian ready before this release goes to CD-ROM. That would contain Alan's AX.25 for Linux and a few other ham radio applications. Unless someone else beats me to the mark, that will be the first turnkey Linux distribution capable of running AX.25 on the air. If you wish to see announcements about the Debian Linux system, send e-mail to debian-announce-request@pixar.com with the word "subscribe" in the message body. To become a developer or beta-tester, send e-mail to me. Rick (wa6nhc) sent me an example dialer script that worked out well. Now that I've played with SLIP a bit, I've got a couple of questions. Is there a way to hang-up the connection? I thought I read you could do a 'DIAL PORT-NAME' with no file to hang up the modem, but that doesn't work for me. I've added code to get the userid and password from DOS Environment variables. This way you can give someone your dialer script and not have to worry about removing the password and userid. I also added code that will read an IP Address that is assigned at connect time. My slip provider assigns me a different IP Address each time I login. Does anyone want to test these out for themselves. Does anyone have a more complex dialer script that will redial the SLIP number on a busy signal, no connect, or some other problem? Lastly... is there a way to add a DNS or ROUTE once the SLIP link is established and then drop the DNS or route once the link is dropped? That seems like it would be very useful. 73's de Jack - kf5mg Internet - kf5mg@kf5mg.ampr.org - 44.28.0.14 - kf5mg@metronet.com - work (looking for) AX25net - kf5mg@kf5mg.#dfw.tx.usa.noam - home (817) 488-4386 +=======================================================================+ + D.A.M. - Mothers Against Dyslexia + +=======================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Oct 94 16:59:28 EWT From: BARRY TITMARSH Subject: wnos 941008 uploaded at last Sorry about the delay, I had some problems inhouse with our router's and could not ftp out or at least keep a session open long enough to succeed in the upload. ;-( But its there now wnos-941008.zip = the sources wnos-941008.exe and exe with all bits in bar a few!
